Innovative Intel
by Maarten Goldstein, Jun 28, 2000 9:36am PDTIn a shocking press release Intel has announced that the real name for the processor which has been know as Willamette so far is really unique..it is...the Pentium 4. Yes, it's amazing and I don't think anybody would've guessed this beforehand. The Pentium 4 will launch later this year, and is based on a brand new architecture unlike the Pentium 2 & 3.

Voodoo 2
Voodoo 2 1000 (Same as above, new packaging, under 3dfx name)
Voodoo 3 1000 (NOT the same)
Voodoo 3 2000 (Again, different)
Voodoo 3 1000 uses SGRAM instead of the normal SDRAM(which is in the 2000, 3000, etc). Voodoo 3 1000 is OEM only. Same clock/memory speed as the 2000.
I wonder how the SGRAM improves preformance. Anyone try it?
PH34R!!!
"Willamette is the code name for the next generation of 32 bit Intel® Architecture (IA-32) processors. It is the first member of a new family of processors that are the successors to the Intel P6 family of processors, which includes the Intel® Pentium® Pro, Pentium II, and Pentium III processors."
Note the IA-32? That means that Willemetter (Pentium 4) is a 32-bit processor, not 64 (that would be IA-64 which they have been promising for a while) , and note the PPRO, PII, and PIII are in the "Intel P6" family, meaning 686, not all that 786, 886, etc. counting crap you guys are doing. If you want to see the actual webpage go here : http://developer.intel.com/design/processor/WMTsdg.htm
and AMD needs to stick w/ their developmental names....i know I sure as hell wouldn't mind having a processor called Sledgehammer...

btw, it's old news that they're calling it the P4. We figgered that out when they temp-named it after a river in Oregon like all the other ones.

Then AMD would come out with the 777MHz Angel which they would rename to the Athlon2 and give it twice the cache running half the speed, BUT it would be only 2/3 the price of the Pentagram.

Hmm...B-art, C-art, D-art, E-art...nope, nothin wrong with that!
I'm in downtown b-more right now. heh.
That PBS webpage that let's you see how much damage radius a nuke would have on any location in the US sure brightened my day last week when I tried it with it dropping right on my current location and having the satisfaction of knowing there wouldn't be anything left alive inside the 695 beltway beyond a couple bums and crackwh0res in the metro tunnels. ;)

the p3 is NOT the 786 or the 886, its a 686
the p1 is a 586 (hence then name pent-ium, pent=5)
the p2/p3/celeron is the 686 chip.....
