Nintendo eShop hosting Mario sale to promote NSMB2
Nintendo is offering a series of Mario games on sale in the eShop for a month leading up to the launch of New Super Mario Bros 2.
Nintendo is celebrating the release of New Super Mario Bros 2 the best way it knows how: more Mario games. The company is putting up a classic Mario game for sale on the 3DS eShop every week leading up to its launch, starting this Friday.
The first on July 26 will be the original Super Mario Bros, so those who didn't get it from the Ambassador program can have it for $3.99. August 2 will introduce Super Mario Land, followed on August 9 by Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins -- both for $2.99. Finally, August 16 will veer into one of Mario's non-platforming offshoots, with Mario's Picross for $2.99. Each sale only lasts a week.
New Super Mario Bros 2 launches on August 19, alongside the 3DS XL. It will be the first full retail game offered as a digital download, and will also offer paid DLC at some point. Nintendo is getting behind the new initiative by offering double the Club Nintendo coins for buying it digitally.

Is that what it is? I assumed NSMB2 stood for Nintendo Super Mario Bros 2. Yeah, that's pretty bad.

Yeah, the Wii (U) games are part of a different line. It's kind of confusing. They should have either continued the number Mario games with Super Mario Bros. 4, 5, and so on, or better distinguished the series: Super Mario Bros. (3)DS on handhelds, Super Mario Bros. Wii (U) on consoles. They wrung the hell out of "Super" and "64" affixes back in the day, and it worked just fine.
