Nintendo offering incentive for digital download of NSMB2
by Steve Watts, Jul 20, 2012 10:00pm PDTNintendo is making a fresh push into the digital age with the 3DS and Wii U, both of which are set to offer full retail games for download. Apparently the company is committed to this idea. The first such game is New Super Mario Bros 2 for the 3DS, due in August, and Nintendo announced today that it will offer a little extra Club Nintendo perk if you download the digital copy.
A Club Nintendo promotion offers 50 coins for registering the packaged version of the game, but a full 100 for the digital version. Both require you to buy the game and fill out a survey, but the digital version automatically registers it as long as you've linked your Club Nintendo account to your 3DS. It's not much of a difference, but it is double the currency for the company's rewards program, and that may just be enough to sway some users to the digital version.
The looming question is about space. The 3DS XL, set to launch alongside NSMB2, sports a 4GB SD card. The older version of the system has less memory by default, so it's hard to say how easily older owners will be able to fit it on their systems. Shacknews has contacted Nintendo and will update as more information becomes available.
