Shadowrun Online seeks $500K Kickstarter

Shadowrun Online has opened a Kickstarter, aiming for $500,000. The PC browser and tablet game is coordinating with Shadowrun Returns to create a consistent story.

Because just one Kickstarter Shadowrun project isn't enough, Cliffhanger Productions has launched a second for "Shadowrun Online." The browser and tablet game emphasizes turn-based tactical combat in the Shadowrun universe, as opposed to the single-player focus of Shadowrun Returns. It was announced in October, but now is turning to Kickstarter for its funding.

The Kickstarter project is aiming for $500,000, and so far has hit just over $58,000 of its goal. It will run on browsers, Android tablets, and iPads using the Unity3D engine. Cliffhanger says it has teamed up with previous Shadowrun authors and Hare Brained Schemes (of Shadowrun Online) to make the various plots tie together, in what they're dubbing the Shadowrun Universe.

"I think coordination between the different Shadowrun products is important," said tabletop RPG developer Jason Hardy, in the announcement. "I've been really pleased at how open the different parties have been to pooling cool ideas and coming up with ways to interweave plot lines to make the playing experience as awesome as possible."

Shadowrun, hmm man that was a great console shooter. Played cross-platform as well. Seem to remember it didn't get very good reviews though.

It is the best competitive console fps game.

Cross platform play obviously was onesided for pc.

You're right! I thought the Genesis version was excellent. It's a shame I never got to play the SNES version.

I could never handle the interface of the Genesis version. It makes me sad because of all the console Shadowrun games, it was easily to most faithful to the source material.

The SNES version was great, just dripping with atmosphere, but it was kind of doing it's own thing gameplay-wise.

the NSES version was a bit more open than the Genesis version. That was my biggest gripe with it.

So they haven't finished making what they promised in the first Kickstarter, and now they want to start something else?

I love Shadowrun, but KickStarter in general is starting to get really fishy about what products are actually going to see the light of day.

$500k for an MMO is peanuts, btw. Just look at most other MMO budgets.

I love the idea of both games, but my danger sensors are blinking like wild here.

Shadowrun Returns and Shadowrun Online are separate projects by different companies.
