Every so often, Blizzard enlists its still faithful World of Warcraft players to bring new blood into the game for a free item. It's that time again, and the prize this time is yet another new mount, the Obsidian Nightwing.

There is a difference in this mount, though. This time, you become the winged panther and players will get to ride on your back. With the debut of the new mount, Blizzard is retiring the X-53 Touring Rocket as a Recruit-a-Friend reward.

Also, you only get the mount when the new player pays for their second month, according to the new Recruit-a-Friend post on the World of Warcraft blog. The rest of the program stays the same: free play to level 20 for the new player and bonus experience and you and your friend group up. The mount will not be rewarded for accounts that are reactivated. Read the full FAQ for all the details.

Blizzard is obviously trying to maintain its player base in anticipation of the upcoming Mists of Pandaria expansion, which should be coming later this year.

Although my guild is still active since TBC and we have a lot of fun together, I really would not recommend WoW to any one new. The game has grown stale and bloated with unnecessary features. Otoh there currently aren't any viable alternatives for our guild, we are looking at for The Elder Scrolls Online, but that still is far away.

you could also try LoTRO... it is a good atmospheric MMO with lots of content..
ofcourse, the template is the same as WoW but it still have a believable world with beautiful art work.. and some really interesting features.

and then ofcourse, there is GW2 to release next month..

I joined in TBC times, got hooked through a free trial. Started a human paladin and loved it. Got stuck on Hogger early on, through failing to kill him I learned to team up and joined a small guild.

I've rolled a character recently, a goblin - and the starting experience just sucks. Fully on rails, no challenge, no team work needed. Need an instance? Just connect to a random group, in a dungeon you don't even have discovered. Convenient, fast - and utterly pointless.

No, WoW is over and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Need an instance? What the fuck, that was the worst fucking part about playing vanilla wow, finding random fuckers to run shit with. If you couldn't well, fucks to you. Now you can have that part both ways. Connect with random people, or with your guild, dont have a healer? Fuck it, que up and it'll find you one, does he suck? Kick him and get a new one. If you liked the pre cataclysm wow, I'm sorry for you.

Anyone who gets this mount, will likely be buying the 2nd account themselves, and activating a time card. I can't imagine finding someone who actually wants to START playing this game these days.
