Sam Raimi no longer directing WoW movie

Spider-Man and The Evil Dead director Sam Raimi signed up to direct the long-planned World of Warcraft movie adaptation way back in 2009, but we've heard little about it since. At Comic-Con, though, Raimi revealed that he's no longer on the project, but it does seem to be going ahead.

"Actually, they don't have me directing World of Warcraft anymore because when I took the Oz job, they had to move on to another director," Raimi told Crave Online (via IGN). "They had to start making it."

So Legendary Pictures is making it, then, or at least they were when Raimi joined the Wizard of Oz prequel. There's no word on who replaced him, and who could possibly say when, or even if, this production will join the glittering pantheon of video game movie adaptations?

Might as well give Uwe Boll a call, since it's going to suck anyway.

How about they make it based on the Warcraft 3 story instead?

Hopefully they get Dreamworks or someone similar to make the movie CGI rather than trying to do live action. Warcraft's style is "cartoony" to begin with so live action would just look wrong.

I think the first time I heard about this movie I was tanking Kara. It's been a little while.

Yeah, but nobody knows the degree of suckage. I figure it will fall into one of three categories:

Lousy tier -- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Awful tier -- Dungeons and Dragons
        Garbage tier -- Uwe Boll

If we're lucky, we'll get the first one!

Basically, gaming movies are in the same purgatory that comic book movies were in, for years. No one took the seriously, and even the ones that were initially successful devolved into self-indulgent failures (Batman to Batman Returns to Batman and Robin. I know I'm skipping the one with the Riddler) as the directors or producers revealed just how embarrassed they were to be making comic book movies in the first place.

It's a process. Someday games will be taken seriously.

I remember the trailers for that movie, and then when I actually saw it I was like "Is this the same movie?"

they are going to make the movie where to watch the ending you need to re watch the movie 100 times and each time it will drop a single frame of the ending, so to watch the ending you will need to gather all the frames and combine them to see how it ends.

Is this sarcasm? Does WOW have a shitty story because I would never know. I heard Diablo 3 has a horrid story. I played Diablo 2 more hours than I have pooped, and I poop on Diablo 3 and poop alot. D2 had a great story and atmosphere, fuck you look-a-like Diablo game.

Raimi is a brilliant director. Love his style: Like when Ash is getting the chainshaw from the shed, genius.

Vanilla WoW was mostly just exploring the world, but TBC through Cataclysm's story has been pretty good.

The presentation involves reading quest text and following the storyline of each chain, but mostly people just click accept and the say there's no storyline.

It's not nearly as bad as some folks would have you believe. It's not gonna get any awards any time soon, but it's definitely decent.

If they don't make it CGI it's will most likely be another game made into a movie that sucks.
