Halo 4 to launch with limited edition controller

A special edition Xbox 360 for Halo 4 was rumored late last week, but while much of the rumor now appears to be true, there was one detail that wasn't included--a special edition controller.

The rumored special edition Xbox 360 for Halo 4 is real, Microsoft has confirmed. However, if you're not looking to plop down $400 for another console, there's one other way to buy some specially-branded hardware. A special UNSC controller will be sold separately for $59.99. The controller will be a translucent grey with a UNSC logo on it. As with the special edition console, the Xbox guide button will glow blue. Both the console and controller will be available when the game launches on November 6.

Oh wow, a re-skinned controller we/ve been using since day-one. That marketing group, earning every penny along the way.

How about researching a new gamepad that isnt based on the same tired form factor since God knows when. A controller that one can hold yet is intuitive like a mouse when aiming.

      not holding my breath here.

If you think this guy is trolling, you haven't spent much time with the X360 controller. Piece of shit, seriously. It starts with the D-pad and ends with durability. I'm mostly concerned about the fact that they all break down within 6 months, but it'd be nice to see something more comfortable and responsive than what we're stuck with currently. The controller (and other peripherals -- Kinect, I'm looking at you) is a big part of the reason I'm not going to invest in an X720 or whatever-the-fuck they decide to call it.

I've never had one where the shoulder buttons lasted more than 6 months, been changing them continously since launch.

My shoulder buttons gave out on the controller that came with the box after a year. The d-pad is really bad.

Yeah I find the controllers pretty durable. I blame myself for breaking my controller after 3 years, because while playing SF3 I threw the controller on the floor in rage vs Gill. It still works, but the battery pack becomes disconnected if you nudge it the wrong way now.

Other than a shoddy d-pad (which most games don't actually use for much) and rechargable battery packs that aren't worth a shit past 6 months there is nothing wrong with the 360 controller.

I HATE the Playstation controllers. So uncomfortable.

What in God's name are you doing to the controllers that they break that quickly? I've owned three controllers for YEARS now and none of them have ever broken down in any capacity.

The rechargeable battery packs on the other hand are starting to go but the controllers are just fine.

i dunno is push buttons pretty hard, but it's never been an issue on ps3 or ps2 controllers, xbox controllers last me 6 months at best.

I used to get pretty rough with my controllers back in the PS2 days (Soul Calibur III, I'm looking at you) but even those are in better condition than all my X360 controllers, which I treat like golden apples. One or both joysticks lose full range of motion or start to drift in one direction or the other, requiring constant correction. The buttons get a little loose and the controllers, in general, lose responsiveness as time goes by. Don't get me started on the charge kits & cables...

I wonder, for everyone who seems to think their controllers are functioning like the day they first peeled the instructional plastic off of them, have you used a controller that actually is new any time recently?

Aside from the obvious trolls here, this controller does look quite neat. I wish they sold a controller with the same design as in the bundle deal, but this still looks awesome.

As much as I love the "transformer" D-Pad, I've had 2 of these newer controllers break on me, the D-pad just cracks off of its base and turns to dust, no joke, having no real way to repair the D-pad.

Granted, I was playing Mortal Kombat both times rigorously, but that should still be no excuse for such a cheap design.

And along with most other's here, I too have had button isses, but the most notable issue with xbox controllers is that my analog sticks often will make my character, or car, or anything I'm playing at the time sway to the left or right even when I'm not pressing on the controller.

        :(

        This does look cool tho.
