EA would 'love' to publish Kingdoms of Amalur 2

Despite the collapse of 38 Studios, EA hasn't given up on the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise. Despite reports to the contrary, the company claims it's open to publishing a sequel. Of course, that relies on a sequel actually happening.

"I think it's unfortunate how everything worked out [for 38 Studios]," EA Labels president Frank Gibeau told Game Informer (via Eurogamer). "At the end of the day, we saw a lot of creativity and vision in the team that Curt [Schilling] put together. We thought the game was terrific. It reviewed well. We built a good business there and hope there's a sequel to it someday. We'd love to be a partner for that."

Gibeau's comments directly contradict an earlier report. EA supposedly passed on publishing a sequel due to "executive politics." Though it's unknown if he was referring to EA, 38 Studios founder Curt Schilling claimed they were in "advanced talks" with a publisher until the Rhode Island governor scared off investors. Given most of the devs have already moved on, it's unlikely EA would be able to make good on Gibeau's sentiment.
