LEGO series continuing voice acting and open worlds

Traveller's Tales introduced full voice acting to its series of licensed block 'em ups for the first time in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes, and hugely expanded the open world ideas of earlier games. Turns out, TT is pretty pleased with how it's been received, and is looking to "build on" these in future games.

"We've been delighted with the reception for our talking LEGO characters in LEGO Batman 2, and it's definitely an approach we'll use again in future titles. We've found that it gives us the ability to tell our stories in a different way, with a new kind of humor on top of all the great physical comedy the animation team has been able to create in the past," head of production Jonathan Smith told PlayStation Radio UK.

"Similarly, we've developed so many new opportunities for fun with the scope and immersion of LEGO Gotham City, that you'll certainly see us build on those--each time in a slightly different way, of course, to keep things fresh and interesting!"

Voice acting had already been confirmed for LEGO The Lord of the Rings, which was announced in June, but it's good to hear (ho ha!) that TT Games feels vindicated in its decisions and wants to carry them on beyond this. Here's an ear-peek at LEGO LotR's voices:
