Rumor: Halo 2 Anniversary in the works

A rumor is circulating that 343 Industries is preparing to make a Halo 2 Anniversary Edition, similar to the 10-year special edition game made for the original Halo: Combat Evolved.

With Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary out of the way and Halo 4 just around the corner, what's next for Microsoft's Halo-dedicated studio? One rumor suggests 343 Industries will be moving on to updating another classic, Halo 2.

The rumor comes from Official Xbox Magazine (via CVG). The magazine calls it "Halo 2 Anniversary," which raises questions about when it will be targeting a release. The game's 10-year anniversary wouldn't be until 2014, giving gamers well over a year to enjoy Halo 4 and its post-release episodic missions.

A Microsoft spokesperson told Shacknews "our focus right now is on developing Halo 4. Beyond that, we do not comment on rumors or speculation."

I hope they still release it on 360. The timeline seems to make that less likely, but I want to have all the halos on one system for at least a moment before having it split across platforms again.

Ya, despite the horrible ending (or lack of one) - I think it would be great to replay this. Halo Anniversary was great.

I'm definitely down, so long as they include online co-op like they did for the first Halo Anniversary release; being able to play the original game in co-op without being stuck in split-screen was a selling point for me.

As much as I enjoyed Halo Anniversary there really is no reason to keep doing remaking the old games. I would rather game studios stop splitting their development and budgets on projects like this. The game plays perfectly fine for single player but not the multiplayer. Release best hits of Halo 2 MP map pack for Reach or Halo 4 and call it a day.
