Nintendo 3DS XL getting larger Circle Pad Pro

Nintendo will be making a Circle Pad Pro accessory for the 3DS XL, but the company hasn't confirmed if it will make the trip to the states.

The 3DS is getting a redesign, but without the second stick that some fans expected. As it turns out, the bigger "XL" system is getting its own second stick after all, in the form of its own Circle Pad Pro accessory.

The latest issue of Famitsu (via Kotaku) confirms that the bigger 3DS will get its own version of the add-on. Like the original Circle Pad Pro, it seems likely that support for the peripheral will be limited. Shacknews has contacted Nintendo of America regarding a US release.

I've been holding out on getting a 3DS until a redesign hits, and I really want a Circle Pad Pro for Resident Evil. I hope the add-on makes it stateside. Don't see why it wouldn't. Surely people want it.

Wow, wasn't really following the XL news but I just assumed they'd include the second stick built in the redesign.

Making a major change to the design of a minor revision makes no sense. Why would they marginalize the existing hardware and split the market just when they started to get a good hold on things?

the cirle pad pro on the 3ds is actually pretty good! I wouldnt mind having to get it if it meant for more cool games

It was good enough for RE and MGS3 that I'm glad I bought it, but yeah, I wish they'd just buck up and integrate it on any future models.

17 million 3DSs shipped. That's an awefull lot of 3DS owners to piss off while you're "bucking up"

I'm one of em. Really, I wouldn't mind. Maybe they package it with a system seller like the motion plus during the Wii transition.

Because it'll cause a fragment in the user base from the ones who got the original 3DS and the ones who get the redesign, that's why.

As opposed to ones with and without the accessory? If they included it, it would at least be a viable thing that millions more users would have access to. Games would support it EXACTLY the way they do the accessory, but with it included in the redesign they'd be more likely to.

The XL does not represent a new generation. It's a minor revision. It's just a bigger 3DS.

He meant that it was a flaw in the original DS line. It was a major gripe then, and still is that there is no built-in 2nd analog stick.

Right, because smartphones have how many analog sticks again? Zero. People who play Angry Birds on their phone couldn't care less about core gaming on the 3DS and Vita. Likewise most gamers realize the control scheme and game selection offered by smartphones hold little interest for those wanting deeper gaming.

        It's two separate markets.

I mostly agree. I plan to pick up a 3DS XL with a Circle Pad Pro for games that do support it, but I don't expect many will. The peripheral will be worth owning just for RE Revelations, though.
