Lords of Shadow dev wants to reboot Contra
by Steve Watts, Jun 28, 2012 10:00am PDTMercurySteam's upcoming Lords of Shadow 2 marks the end of the re-imagined Castlevania trilogy. Once that story is done, what can we expect from producer David Cox and his team? Apparently, he has his sights on Contra.
"I know there's going to be pressure on us to do another Castlevania game, but I don't want to rise to that pressure," Cox told VG247. "I want to do something else. I love Contra. I'd love to do Contra. At MercurySteam we've got an original idea that I think is really awesome. We'd love to bring that idea to market and I'm hoping that the success of Lords of Shadow 2 will allow us to do that."
So why does the developer want to step away from vampires and the undead? "We kind of feel vindicated that the game did so well," he said. "It's the best-selling Castlevania game ever. So that for us is vindication that we did the right thing. What sort of legacy do you want to leave? I'm proud of the games we've made but we've got other things we want to do. Other worlds we want to explore. Other stories we want to tell. We want to go out with a bang."
