When's Guild Wars 2 coming out? August 28, that's when, publisher NCsoft announced today. That should give you plenty of time to file a time-off request at work and stock up on supplies for the customary launch binge. There's a new trailer teasing some of the wonders you'll see in ArenaNet's subscription-free MMORPG, too.

"Now that we're just two months away from launch, we'll spend our remaining time optimizing, polishing, and balancing the game, to ensure that we provide you with the best launch-day experience we possibly can," ArenaNet co-founder and president Mike O'Brien said.

You can play before August, though, if you pre-order one of its three editions. As well as access to the final beta weekend event, pre-ordering gets you bonus in-game items and early access from August 25. The next, and last, beta weekend will run July 20-22.

Lead content developer Colin Johanson recently talked up how GW2's lack of subscriptions means it can focus more on fun, as it doesn't have "the need to create mechanics that keep people playing as long as possible."
