Star Wars: The Old Republic is going offline for about four hours tomorrow, to lay the groundwork for the 1.3 "Allies" update. The maintenance downtime is scheduled to last from 12 AM PDT until 4 AM PDT, so chances are it won't impact you unless you play into the wee hours. After that point, you'll be able to restart the game launcher to update to 1.3.

BioWare provided the maintenance notice on Friday. As previously reported, the update adds a dungeon group finder, a new augmentation system, a socially adaptive skill system, and a revamped tutorial. It also adds new perks to expand on a previous update's Legacy system.

If you're curious to try out the new update, but don't own SWTOR, you won't have to wait long. The game is going free-to-play up to level 15 in July. It seems like a half-step towards a full F2P model, as many MMOs have been adopting lately, and BioWare acknowledges the possibility.

I finally quit playing about a month ago (even though my account is paid thru the end of July). Game is strong. The only thing that made me lose interest was how dead the world and servers were. I know they've added the server transfers now, but after not playing for a month I'm just not finding myself interested to go back. Especially since summer is here. Shame they started making all the necessary changes this late. Server transfers and LFG tool should have launched with 1.2 and this game would still be alive and kicking.

i enjoyed it, though maybe it wasn't as innovative as an MMO needs to be at this point. but yeah, once i got to Taris, the player population completely dropped off and i was running around a gigantic empty world. completely killed the experience for me.

No reason for me to let my subscription renew, if they are talking about F2P. I'll come back when they figure out what Business Model they are planning to stick with.

Considering how long it took them to do server transfers what makes you think a F2P transition will happen anytime soon?
