Xbox Live Rewards to be given for Achievements

Microsoft announced plans today to offer Xbox Live Rewards for Achievements sometime this fall.

The Xbox Live Rewards program has been regularly awarding gamers on a monthly basis. By participating in a variety of activities and by answering a monthly survey, gamers are able to earn Microsoft Points to purchase content on Xbox Live. A new move announced today might enable hardcore gamers to earn even more: by rewarding gamers for their Achievements.

On Twitter, Microsoft promised "a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements!" Although many fans asked for more, the Twitter account simply promises of more details to come.

The announcement doesn't necessarily promise Microsoft Points, but that's been the most common reward in the loyalty program. In concept, this seems like a smart way to encourage the most heavy players who are probably playing (and paying) the most on the platform. Finally, your Gamerscore can be worth something--an infinite percentage increase over the nothing it's currently worth.

Until we know more specifics, it's probably safe to say they won't be giving out MSP in any large amounts. Currently you earn about 20MSP per month by taking a survey, and I wouldn't look for anything above that for these.

Nice, I was hoping they'd reward achievements and I'm still hoping it'll be with microsoft points since that seems the easiest way. Maybe with 10% of gamerscore to microsoft points? Not sure how realistic that is but if they do go with that it'll be a great way to keep people on microsoft devices.

The rewards program is a start but will be abused if they award points based on achievements. They would likely have to cap it at some amount per month.

I honestly would rather they focus on adding unique features to Live that you can't get free else where. Why couldn't do what PSN does with giving away a free or nearly free game every now and again. I would settle for anything to justify paying the $60 a year. Things like original content and small games like 1 vs 100 to take advantage of the player base.
