Starcraft: Ghost 'just as likely' as Lost Vikings 3, says Blizzard

Starcraft 2 lead designer Dustin Browder says no one at Blizzard ever talks about bringing back Starcraft: Ghost, making its revival "just as likely" as Lost Vikings 3.

Starcraft 2 is a critically acclaimed revival of the franchise, but some fans still feel the pangs of the canceled Starcraft: Ghost. Now that Starcraft 2 is setting the world ablaze all over again, might we see the canceled project brought back too? Not likely.

"There are no plans," SC2 lead designer Dustin Browder said.

"I'm not saying we won't ever, but I'll tell you what I do know: There are no meetings going on. There is no team. No one talks about doing it," Browder told Kotaku. "It doesn't mean that in two years from now, we won't have those meetings, the team won't be formed, but there is literally nothing happening around that game right now that would indicate that there's any likelihood that it will happen. It's just as likely we'll do that again as Lost Vikings 3 or whatever. There's just no guarantees one way or the other, but nothing is happening."

If you're incredibly optimistic, you might be thinking, "awesome, Lost Vikings 3!" But we're pretty sure that's not how he meant it. While Browder's comments are laced with language that anything is possible, Ghost doesn't even seem to be on the table right now for Blizzard.

I can understand being burned by the Starcraft Ghost experience, but why drag Lost Vikings into this? Lost Vikings would be a great ipad/tablet game

nice little bit of trivia, the company in charge of doing the cinematics for Warcraft Adventures was the same company who did those hilariously awful cutscenes in the CDi link adventures.

I think they don't want to try to fight in the FPS/TPS genre, so they're sticking to what they know (until they release Titan).

Thats a shame... I remember playing ghost multiplayer at E3 and it was one of the most innovative titles at the time. I was ready to buy the game then and there from 10 minutes of play.

The MP really didn't get much press. It was also shown with a new mode at the first Blizzcon.

they said it was new IP and hinted briefly at a mmo shooter, however that may have changed in the 2 years since they said it.

StarCraft: Ghost was announced almost 10 years ago (TGS 2002). http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/ghost-dog-way.php

The feeling of intense disappointment in the air was palpable. Then came the rage. People ranted that it wasn't just "not Starcraft 2" it was a console game that extended and no doubt ruined the franchise.

Just watched that entire opening scene cinematic - a bit dated now, but man Blizzard did cinematics right back in the day. That must have been about the end of their 'good cinematic' days. That was a cooler opening sequence than anything they've released since and including World of Warcraft.
