actualy from what i've read on developing for opengl, the opengl drivers themselves do not include functionality for initializing the actual display buffer. So in most cases (under win 9x) DDraw is used to initialize the frame buffer and then it's passed to opengl to do it's thing. Then DDraw is used agian to close the display when the prog exits. It is used but not in any way that would affect performance.

Upon loading Q3DM1 (Quake 3 Arena map) it was easy to see the image quality has improved, all textures were brighter and more vibrant compared to DX7. The same can be said with ALL the Madonion.com 3DMark2000 tests, everything was overall much smoother and better looking.

What the fuck is this guy smoking?

And where can I get some?
