That's part of the reason I wrote the article- nostalgia for all the little innovative mods we used to see for Quake. Remember how cool we all thought the flamethrower was? I miss a lot of that too- everyone's doing gameplay-only mods these days, stuff like Jailbreak and boring shit like that. Quake 1 had flight sims and driving games and real TCs, stuff you don't see anymore. Part of it is that anyone doing truly innovative little mods got snatched up by all the gaming start ups (companies like Valve and ION Storm).
