Rumor: Black Ops 2 coming to Wii U

A British magazine has reportedly outed plans to port Black Ops 2 to the Wii U this November.

Nintendo has made no bones about its hope that platform parity with the Wii U will make it more attractive for third-parties to port their games from PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. But conspicuously missing from the company's E3 press briefing were some of the biggest franchises around, including Call of Duty. A rumor suggests that the next installment, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, will make it to the new console.

Eurogamer reports that scans from the British magazine Nintendo Gamer reveal the game will launch this November. Details of how it would use the GamePad controller were not disclosed.

Keep in mind that this is a rumor. Not only is this information second-hand, but Nintendo hasn't even announced if the system will be available before Black Ops 2 launches. However, it's clear that the developer is thinking about the Wii U. Treyarch's Mark Lamia told GI.biz: "I think it's interesting to think about all the platforms. Just in general, that's part of my job as a studio head, working with Activision on assessing where our creative can live. How can people experience it? We obviously have been a Nintendo developer for many years and have created many Call of Duty games on the Nintendo platform. [Wii U] is clearly a more powerful platform than its predecessor and... they have obviously a unique controller and interface."

Activision has published Wii versions of all the recent Call of Duty games, including Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3. Those ports required significant reworking due to the Wii's lacking power compared to current-gen systems; a Wii U port should be a piece of cake by comparison.

Shacknews has contacted Activision regarding the rumor, and will update as more information becomes available.

If this happens, Nintendo will fare signifcantly better come Christmas (and they'll probably clean up regardless). A popular franchise, AND a new console to attract buyers?

yah might draw in some people, but I doubt it will be much beyond a simple port.

Especially when most people who are looking to buy it already have a system to play it on. Unless they locked down some kind of exclusive content or features... it's kind of a wash in terms of selling a system.

I'd love to see the RTS view in Strikeforce (Overlord? Overwatch?) come up on the tablet and to be able to issue orders with the touch screen. Maybe allow for more advanced tactics due to the response time of using the screen compared with analog sticks.

I wouldn't be surprised if we heard about blops 2 and maybe something else showing up around launch when nintendo throws an event to announce the price/date and showcase launch games sometime in late september.

I should add that this doesn't affect me either way as I'll be getting blops 2 on pc. But it does bolster the launch lineup and give the console a better chance to succeed in the market (even if it is only slightly).

What happened to the rumor that Blizzard was porting Starcraft and/or Diablo 3 to the WiiU?

I'd be more surprised if they didn't put it on the Wii U.
