Dead Island Riptide announced, is a mystery

Dead Island Riptide, a sequel to the undead shooter-RPG, has been announced for PC and consoles, but that's about we know for now.

Sometimes publishers use E3 to spill their guts about a new game, blasting screenshots, fact sheets and trailers into our soft faces. Other times, they casually drop a small announcement then walk away, like a lout tossing an empty cola can on the pavement. The latter's the case with Dead Island Riptide, Techland's sequel to zombie shooter-RPG Dead Island, announced at E3 by publisher Deep Silver for PC and consoles. And that's all we know. "An extensive reveal of its' thrilling new perils is planned for later this summer," Deep Silver said in the announcement. So we can expect perils in this sequel to a game about a zombie outbreak, then. New ones, too. But not right now, no. You'll have to wait. That image up top is from the original Dead Island, by the way, because the following logo is all Deep Silver has to show for the sequel. Sure, it's nice, but it's not quite as exciting:

I remember the trailer for the first getting so much buzz, and then I heard nothing about the game. It was released already? How was it?

You missed a pretty fun game. It was glitchy as fuck and the story was full of tropes, but it was pretty damn fun! It was definitely the biggest surprise of last year for me. It just came out of nowhere.

Single player for me was awesome, not really a fan of the MP though

Yes, it was an awesome game. No, it was not zombie ICO or whatever people expected it to be.

It was a solid 7 or 8 single player, went to 9 or 10 if you had a good group of 4 with mics and everything. So much fun... seeing how long we could survive in the quarantine zone, etc.

The item management was a bit wonky and overdone (durability on everything that breaks down quickly), but I though tit was awesome

Dead Island could have been a hit if they got it into the mainstream in some way. Deep Silver backs great things and Techland always makes fun and innovative games. Although their decisions with the Call of Juarez franchise has been questionable, possibly jumped the shark.
