The Lord of the Rings Online has announced release plans for its fourth major expansion. The Riders of Rohan expansion will hit on September 5, but pre-purchases get a few special goodies separated by tiers.

The basic edition includes a Roharrim mount, and an in-game title. Pre-purchasing it before the release date gets you a box of four level 20 statted cloaks to choose a bonus power, and a Rohirrim appearance once you hit level 20.

For you more committed LOTR nerds, the Heroic edition gives the mount, the title, a cosmetic chest piece, and the Quest Packs from Evendim, Moria, and Lothlorien. Plus, pre-purchasing gets you the level 20 cloaks, a 25% stat boost through level 75, and the Rohirrim appearance.

Finally, snagging the Legendary Edition will net you those extras, plus a 6th Inventory bag, a Crystal of Remembrance to add legacy status to a legendary weapon, and a War-Steed appearance for your mount. Pre-purchasing this version makes those four statted cloaks from the other versions level 75 instead, because that's how a Legendary rolls.

The main thrust of the new expansion is (appropriately enough) mounted combat, but it also adds a large new play area and raises the level cap to 85.

I wonder why the game looks so much different from how it looked before it went FTP. Seems more cartoonish and maybe a little more blurry than I remember. Did they change the visuals at all?

I don't think they did because they wouldn't change the engine going free to play
