E3 2012: Nintendo showcase wrapup

Our wrap-up of Nintendo's E3 press briefing, along with a few announcements that trailed out directly after the show.

Nintendo has wrapped up its own E3 press briefing, rounding out the three with the final one before the show starts properly. Nintendo is spreading out its announcements this year, starting with a set of announcements like the Miiverse on Sunday, and extending into a developer roundtable tonight and a 3DS showcase tomorrow. But as the coming out party for the Wii U, with some 3DS sprinkled in for good measure, we've compiled a handy list of announcements that you might have missed.

Nintendo's making mostly the right moves. The graphics quality will be enough to please most customers, as was the case back in 2006 with the wii. They made enough novel use of the tablet to make it not seem like a complete gimmick. They've integrated all the major video streaming services.

Honestly, I don't see the next generation stuff from Sony and Microsoft being able to compete. The only they will have going for them is increased graphical power. Honestly, though, it won't be a drastic enough difference to sway consumers. And porting to Wii U won't be much of an issue either. Look at how easy it is for developers to downgrade their PC graphical engines for Xbox and PS3 (ex: Skyrim).

So Nintendo may have found the sweet spot again in this coming cycle. My main fear is that marketing could also be as important as it's ever been this time around. In which case, Nintendo could see a repeat of the Gamecube, because their ability to build hype (through traditional marketing) for their devices has always been weak. The novelty of their hardware and games seems to be what has always driven their success.

You're not that enhanced for a interrogator..
I'm a big fan boy of the big N, didn't see the press briefing, but comments all around aren't looking that hopeful.
2 tablets per U is nice and all, as much as I want to see original games on the platform, I think Sony will just dump a boatload of money into the vita/ps3/ps4 interaction(games) to make it seem like its the same (i.e Move)
Price hasn't been disclosed yet so that should be a big worry : \

How did they show anything? The only thing remotely interesting was Pikmin. Mario is great, ut there was nothing new there. A lot of the third party stuff is stuff that's already out.

I'll probaboly buy one because...well...Mario. I think it does a great job of competing...with the 360 and PS3. Microsoft and Sony have a real opportunity to destroy with their next gen systems next year.
