$99 Xbox expanding to more stores
Microsoft has announced that its $99 Xbox 360 is expanding to Best Buy and GameStop later this month.
Microsoft was quiet about it's new initiative to offer cheaper Xbox 360s subsidized by a subscription at its press conference, but it's driving forward with the plans nonetheless. The company announced today that $99 Xbox 360 will be available at Best Buy and GameStop stores later this month.
The word from the Major Nelson blog didn't drop a specific date to look forward to, but recommends calling your local store if you're interested.
The bundle includes a 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect, but requires a two-year agreement for Xbox Live at $15 a month. It comes out to slightly more than the cost of that Xbox model, Kinect, and two years of Gold than if you were to buy it all at once.

So, $460 total cost minus two years of Live at say $100 that means $360 for the box itself and Kinect. That's not a great deal.

Sounds like the "subprime XBox" to me. All they really wanted to do is get the initial cost down, and then entice people into the subscription plan. And after that, games are still $60, or $55 from GameStop on initial release. How is this good for the industry and consumers?

Any pre-paid account? I don't know about the states but in Canada Pre-Paid plans are almost always cheaper unless you use your phone ALOT. (and I mean alot cheaper like 80%)

Phones are subsidized by contracts; you're going to get dinged with the $90 a month phone bill either way.
