There's been plenty of whispers about Dead Space 3 in the run-up to E3, and today EA finally revealed the poorly-kept secret. The decidely action-packed shooter is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in February 2013 and yes, as rumoured, it will pack drop-in, drop-out co-op.

EA showed the shooter off with a short on-stage demo heavy on the action but light on the horror, with Isaac and his co-op chum Sergeant John Carver players blasting away at hordes of monsters in big set pieces, and even crouching behind cover to shoot other men.

They're trapped on a frozen planet, see, with new necromorphs and monsters of its own, making the whole thing look curiously like Dead Space meets Lost Planet. Still, developer Visceral Games claims it will be horrific in single-player.

"Dead Space 3 will deliver action and horror on a scale that far exceeds anything we've done before. The game will range from the depths of space and tight, indoor corridors to a harsh new planet with explorable environments that offer new challenges," Visceral VP and GM Steve Papoutsis said in the announcement.

"For fans that love playing alone in the dark, they still can have the classic Dead Space experience that makes the franchise so unique. Likewise, players that want to share that immersive and intense experience with a friend now have that option thanks to the addition of co-op. Either way, the action is intense, the adventure is breathtaking, and the thrills are unforgettable."

Yet to the play the first, but it is on my "get it" list. If only publishers would stop releasing new stuff for a few months...

Both Dead Space games are fantastic and play well on PC if you can wait for Steam sales.

I'm a huge fan of the Dead Space franchise. Own both for the PC and they run surprisingly very well. Very well optimized for the PC also.

Although my little concern from the clip that we saw is that it's more duck, cover, run n' gun compared to the first two. Co-Op seems like a good idea to implement but only if it can be implemented properly. I just hope this doesn't turn into an action packed in your face game. That's not what the other DS games are like.

Well optimized....yea, if you skip the fact that without v-sync the game had terrible screen tearing and with it the controls run like shit...

The second one was a bit more optimized in that part but it still didn't solve the problem entirely.

So you had to disable v-sync ingame and use the program "D3D Overrider" to force v-sync and triple buffering. And the the game run really smooth.

Btw i recommend that program too for the witcher 1, so your videocard dosnt turn into a toaster XD.

I played DS1 and 2 without vsync and didn't have any more screen tearing issues than any other game.

Then you are one of the lucky ones, there are lots and lots of post of the issue about screen tearing and controls with vsync.

Perhaps I simply didn't notice. In any case, your advice should help the issue.

      Looks dude-bro tastic.

Also, according to Siliconera you get more story when you play co-op, so people are *punished* for playing single player.

      Fucking retarded.

That.....doesn't look like survival horror :(

I know some folks keep saying how action oriented these games are, but they're still survival horror and creeped me out. With co-op all of that will be taken away...not really looking forward to this one..

They could at least split you up for long sections of the game and only have co-op through select areas but that won't happen, at best it'll be "different passageways" like in resident evil 5...lame

"So basically what you're saying happened is, they looked at God of War, Gears of War, and Prince of Persia, and said, 'I see what American gamers like! Muscles, cover systems, quick time events, and not dying!... and games that are bright!'" -- Chris Remo, Idle News Podblast 2/5/2009

Ellie is always getting the shaft and not the shaft Isaac probably had in mind for her. I hope she is ok.

Fuck Dead Space and fuck co-op!

I tried playing the first game and eventually got bored of the monster closet fetch quest.Played about 5 minutes of the second game before I just gave up.
