Wii U GamePad serves as TV remote, includes L3 and R3 buttons
by Andrew Yoon, Jun 03, 2012 3:15pm PDTNintendo has unveiled the official name and design of the Wii U controller. The "Wii U GamePad" has been redesigned since its debut at last year's E3. The revised design includes full analog sticks, versus circle pads. In a pre-E3 video stream, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted that the original design was better suited to portable devices.
In addition, the new analog sticks feature L3 and R3 buttons by pushing in the analog sticks, a la PS3 and Xbox 360. Surprisingly, the controller will work as a "fully independent infrared TV remote," letting you control both your Wii U console and television from the same device.
