Battlefield 3 June patch adds custom rules symbol, color blind support

Battlefield 3 is getting a large-scale update on June 4, bringing a fix to an overpowered M26 loadout, colorblind support, and more.

DICE has detailed a large upcoming patch to Battlefield 3, set to hit right in the midst of E3 festivities. It's scheduled to hit all three platforms on June 4, the same day as Battlefield 3 Premium. As usual, the patch will make a few key adjustments among a multitude of smaller changes. The biggest changes are a fix to an overpowered M26 loadout, slightly reduce suppression, icons for servers running custom games, and colorblind support for console players. One of the main complaints fans had against rented servers were the custom rules implemented by its operators. Some servers would have tickets set to max, leading to "marathon games." DICE is addressing the situation by adding a § symbol in the server browser. That symbol will indicate the server is running custom rules. "Note that this can still be either a Ranked or Unranked server, as some rule changes will turn a server Unranked, while some (such as ticket counts) do not affect the server’s Ranked status," DICE notes. Oddly, use of the symbol is not mandatory, and those running custom servers will be able to opt not to display it.

No more marathon battles?

Other tweaks listed on the Battlefield Blog include improved VTOL performance, and various changes to other vehicles, gadgets, and more. It's a large-scale update, so you're almost certain to find something you love and something you hate about it. DICE doesn't list a fix to the FAMAS bug in its patch notes, but has claimed that's coming soon. It will probably be issued as a separate patch, as we can't imagine the studio would wait until a big July update to fix the problem.

Doesn't BF3 already have colourblind support? Or am I thinking of BC2?

tempted to buy it now just to support them for putting in a colourblind mode - people have no idea how bad it can make some games :/

LOL at the puzzles in BioShock for color blind.

Though funny enough being this is a war shooter, being certain types of color blind are not allowed in the military because certain weapon systems, equipment, and maps are not color blind friendly. There was a small bit in Band of Brothers series where an Officer tells someone to let him know when the light turns on because he's colorblind and wouldn't be able to see it.

When I was younger I was in the air cadets as I wanted to follow my brother in to the RAF.

when I was told I wouldn't be allowed to fly due to colorblindness it really sucked... so I ended up in videogames making shooters heh

i notice alot of the "pro" players put it in colorblind mode. i am not sure why they do this though, it makes the nametags more distinct i guess.

Is there maybe something similar to how in MW3 with color blind assist, you could see otherwise invisible (on the radar) incoming stealth bombers?

Let's hope their ECM fix sticks. Chopper combos have been going dual flare because it's almost 100% in making missiles go off course. ECM jamming has been poor and you have a tiny window to even attempt it.

the DART glitch should not have existed this long. its pathetic and inexcusable that it was not hotfixed or patched within a week or so of discovery. there is absolutely not excuse for it. they have really not done a good job supporting this game. they are pinching pennies trying to do massive patches all at once, when they should have spread things out with smaller and less sweeping changes and much, much quicker and better responsiveness to issues.

Remember that hit detection and damage is all client side. Client side patches require time and money to be submitted to Sony and Microsoft to get rolled out. I'm not defending DICE/EA for having this issue out for so long, but it's also a financial decision to push the patch out to all console users (a majority of their base).

The M26 issue is annoying, but it's definitely not game breaking for Conquest game mode. Server admins also had time to customize allowing this weapon combination or not.

they can afford to have patched the game more than they have, just simply havent because they are greedy. i understand the issue, i just think it sucks and it is bad business. i also think the whole unified patching stuff is garbage too, the needs of each platform should be considered. its all about monetiziing ever little old thing though, i get it. its why i generally avoid EA products. its why BF3 is my first BF, and most likely my last, depending on the quality of the coming expansions and how this elite shit turns out.

Or it could be because patching games takes time and effort. But mostly TIME.

So no fixing the horrible hit detection? I don't think I will be playing BF3 anymore.

Have they fixed all of the game breaking, campaign mode bugs yet? Not that anyone plays it single player...
