Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate confirmed for 3DS

Though the cork was popped a bit early with Konami's leaked E3 schedule, a 3DS Castlevania game has now been confirmed. Titled Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, the new game is said to feature Trevor Belmont as the main protagonist, making for his first starring role since Castlevania III on the NES.

The game was confirmed by a Nintendo Power cover story (via GoNintendo). Trevor will use his own version of the Combat Cross, and the balance between strong short-range and weaker wide-range attacks seems reminiscent of Lords of Shadow. That only makes sense, considering the earlier rumors stated that LoS producer David Cox and writer/director Enric Alvarez were both involved in the 3DS sequel.

Konami may have been planning this as a surprise at E3, but if so, they didn't count on print media blabbing all over the place. We can still look forward to the official unveiling, though, since it's likely to show off some actual game footage
