Overclockers Love AMD

what is the best current processor to overclock? opinions? and is the best motherboard still an abit motherboard for whatever chipset you decide to use?

i was thinking about getting the BP-6 and getting 2 nice cells to go in it... is that still a reasonable option?

Ok Shackizens, need some help here... Im looking to pick up an ide cdrw drive. Has to be at least 8x4x32x. Im looking for suggestions as well as url's containing quality reviews.

I got an amd athlon 750/ abit ka7-100 motherboard, It was a pain in the ass setting up, getting all the right drivers and shit. But once I finished everything is running perfect

This is quite a good chip based on this review.

My question is why do the AMD chips SUCK at FSB overclocks? only multiplier ones work well.

Eg - 90% of AMD Duron reviews initially - 700mhz they overclocked to no more than 770mhz by increasing to 110mhz FSB on the board.

but ANY overclocks on the original Athlon were the same multiplier worked well - 30-50% overclocks of original speed - 10% max with FSB overclocks - weird chip.
Perhaps the chipsets themselves cant handle the extra speed?


Whereas a Celeron can NOT do multiplier (locked) but FSB is fine, - you would think the AMD's would do FSB fine, based on the fact the chips CAN do 950mhz for eg (in toms case)

Interesting stuff indeed, never found a good answer for it either.

I don't think very many people realize that without AMD there would be no Celeron, only PIII's which would cost a lot more than they do now because of the lack of competition and tight chip supplies. With no competition Intel would be extracting monopoly profits from every one of us. Intel tried really hard to kill AMD by flooding the market with cheap Celerys to deny AMD any profit from it's K6, and they almost succeeded. Gamers benefitted from that big time.

That's why it's really fun to see little AMD kicking the crap out of big Intel now. And again, we're the ones to benefit in the form of lower prices. Just use your imagination as far as what the CPU market would look like with no AMD. The worldwide shortage of CPUs would be much worse, there would be no Celeron, only PIII's and Intel would be reaming us from behind with no vaseline on the prices.

There would also be no 1GHZ PIII (which is really a overclocked 850) that you can only buy from Dell because that cunt Michael Dell made a deal with Intel: "Sure, I'll refuse to carry AMD if you give me preferential treatment on chip supplies - you suck my dick, I'll suck yours Intel".

A lot of the people who read this page are incredibly short-sighted. They can't see any farther than their own noses: "AMD sucks, Intel rulez". These pea-brains don't realize how much better off they are because the x86 CPU market for the first time ever is competitive.

I don't know where you could find the drivers but last time I could check the latest ones were the .2048's that came out.. sometime in february I believe.

Well around the end of may all of aureals executive staff walked out and then slowly everything went down hill from there.. with financial reports coming out and stuff
