Here's yet another Game of the Year edition for you, folks. Tripwire Interactive has announced a re-release for Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, thanks to a nod from PC Gamer. This means a new free content pack for all current owners of the game, plus a free Steam weekend to try out the game and decide if you want to give it a go.

The content pack will feature an "Action" mode with a crosshair, easier aiming, toned down recoil, reduced damage, and access to a lot of weapons from the get-go; a "Classic" mode with a more tactical feel from the first game; a new Mamayev Kurgan map; and various adjustments to vehicles and game performance.

The game's free Steam weekend will start at 10 AM Pacific time this Thursday, May 24, and lasts through Sunday, May 27. The new content pack will launch sometime before the free weekend, so you'll be able to try it out.

I've been playing their beta versions and they have done a great job sorting out the games issues since release.

Hope lots of players try the free weekend and see for them selves, and ignore the moaning RO1 vets. Bunch of tossers they are ;)

There was an interview a few months back where they commented on working on a special "Hardcore" mode for all the angry RO1 holdouts.

That's in this new version. The new modes are Action for the cod style junkies, Classic and realistic for the RO1 whiners.

Man, I regret my RO2 purchase so much. It was so fucking buggy upon release. I haven't gone back to it.

Same here. The beta was very stable and smooth for me, full game was a mess at launch :(

Personally, I don't like how re-releases are called GOTY editions if they haven't won numerous GOTY awards (and I'm talking overall GOTY, not shooter of the year or RPG of the year). Looks like Red Orchestra 2 is justifying calling it a GOTY edition because they won a shooter of the year award from PC Gamer magazine.

like it or not, it's become the new 'gold box' standard in marketing. I don't see anything wrong with it, because it tells me that it's a cheaper collection of game and all the dlc.

He never said he hated Dead Island, he said it was deceiving. This is also deceiving in my opinion since PC Gamer gave it their shooter of the year not their game of the year. At least it wasn't from some random gaming blog this time.

I am with Bill Crystal, excited for DNF GOTY.
