Konami's "Castlevania: Blank of Blank" series has done incredibly well on the DS, and it appears the publisher is looking to expand that formula to the system's successor. A leak from the company's E3 schedule includes a game called "Castlevania: Mirror of Faith" for 3DS. Speculation has it that this game will tie in with a rumored Lords of Shadow sequel.

According to the rumor, David Cox and Enric Alvarez, the producer and writer/director of Lords of Shadow, respectively, are involved with this new project. If true, it's likely to tie into the well-received rebooted universe.

Dutch site N1ntendo spilled the beans on Konami's E3 schedule. The page has since been pulled, but not before NeoGAF could remark upon their findings. With E3 only a few weeks away, it won't be long until we see if this rumor holds any merit.

:( does that mean it's going to be a full third person romp rather than a 2d/3d metroidvania? That makes me sad.

I have bought every single Metroidvania castlevania. I really would love a new one, but I would be happy if they finally broke out some new art assets. If it goes 2d, I think it's time to finally top SotN in the 2d department and make some new sprites already. Something tells me that the most 3d that this game will be would be some form of 2.5 D game. Konami knows what butters their bread on mobile platforms.

a new 2d castlevania would be a system seller for me. a new 3d one would not :(

basically this. Well, a good 2d Castlevania would be. Something like what AroundTheFur said, new art, not just rehashed artwork from gba/ds.

i would not even mind if they went with 3d for the graphics, as long as the gameplay is 2d and good. but if they go 2d, i hope they do update the sprites. we have been killing the same damn bats for over a decade now

yeah, I hope they fight the temptation to do a 3d game.

I would like to see 3d environments with 2d gameplay

It's probably going to be like Rayman where it will basically be a 2d game with some 3d depth to it. It actually worked very well with Raman.

That'd be fine, but your "probably" is just a guess.

What?! Really? I didn't feel like that was the case at all. When there were puzzles they weren't exactly an obstruction
