It's all go at Payday: The Heist developer Overkill Software these days. As well as working on a sequel and DLC for its coop crime caper FPS, and being acquired by Starbreeze Studios, the Swedes have revealed they're working with Valve on something Left 4 Dead-y.

"We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production," Overkill game director Ulf Andersson said in a statement (via VG247).

"We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done."

As for what this'll actually be, who knows? Payday clearly took a few hints from Valve's zombie 'em up, so it wouldn't be too jarring for the worlds to collide. Valve characters often make appearances in other games, but that probably wouldn't meet the "in-depth" requirement. Might that mention of the hospital be a cheeky nod to Left 4 Dead's 'No Mercy' campaign, set around an overrun hospital?

The original group of Starbreeze has three projects in the works itself.

Naw, from the sounds of it. The characters from L4D look to be making a cameo in a game mode or something. Or possibly the other way around.

Could it just be some DLC for Left 4 Dead with characters from Payday?

Left 4 Dead 3 would put a huge smile on my face. It's been a couple years, we're due for it.

That would be cool but I almost don't want it announced because I'll just be annoyed they haven't announced Half-Life Episode 3 yet.

I think you can pretty safely assume that HL3 is being worked on, and steadily. They're able to work on shit at the same time without projects really interfering with one another as far as pushing back the other.

Something like L4D3, which will be way more iterative than HL3 will be (I hope) can likely be cranked out a little faster.

You don't even have to guess. It is being worked on and Gabe spoke publicly about it last month. Go look on RPS for the Ricochet 2 interview.

Let them get the long awaited cold stream and L4D1 maps dlc out first! 3-6 months after that I'd guess they'd release L4D3 or announce it.

This is most likely a dlc for Payday that is a l4d tribute.

I enjoyed playing "Payday: The Heist" during its free weekend on Steam, although I didn't buy it because my game backlog is/was already huge. This definitely sounds interesting.
