One of the more intriguing features of the Vita is its ability to cross-play games from the PS3. So far, only a few titles have launched on both platforms: MLB 12 The Show and MotorStorm RC, for example. However, Sony has just announced a pretty big addition to the Vita: the next Sly Cooper game, Thieves in Time.

The Vita version will launch day and date with the PS3 version. As with other cross-play games, save files will transfer from one platform to another automatically via the cloud. The Vita version will feature a number of Vita-specific controls, including use of the front and rear touch panel and motion controls. For example, when entering first-person mode, you use the built-in gyroscope to scan the environment.

Unfortunately, Sony hasn't determined pricing for the Vita version of Sly Cooper, and if gamers will be able to get both versions of the game with one purchase. PSN games have typically been offered bundled, but retail games have not. Sony's MLB 12 The Show was offered at a slightly discounted bundle. However, we question if gamers will really take advantage of cross-play unless both versions are offered at one price.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be available on PS3 and Vita later this year.
