Resident Evil 6 expected to sell 7M

Capcom expects to sell 7 million copies of Resident Evil 6, the company revealed in its financial forecast. It will be targeting western markets in the upcoming year, particularly North America.

Capcom has shared some of its sales targets for the coming year in its financial forecast, detailing ambitious plans for Resident Evil 6, and more modest ones for a few of its other franchise titles. The company expects the new game in its famed zombie series to move a whopping 7 million units worldwide.

Andriasang reports on the financial statements, which show smaller targets for other upcoming titles. It's planning on 2 million for DMC: Devil May Cry, 1.5 million for the upcoming Dragon's Dogma, and 1.4 million for Lost Planet 3. Each of them are set to hit sometime in this fiscal year, though for Lost Planet that means early 2013.

These games are pretty clearly targeted towards the western market, which is a major part of Capcom's strategy. It expects 15 billion yen (approximately $188 million) in operating income for the fiscal year, bolstered by North America. Of its total plan to sell 20 million units, the lion's share come from the west: 7.6 million and 5.2 million from North America and Europe, respectively, compared to 6.5 million from Japan.

Capcom is ruining a genre they helped make, go back to Survival Horror. Now Dead Space 3 looks like it might follow in actions footsteps...dammit

Pretty much this, RE5 was trash for me - generic 3rd person action adventure. Survival horror? Yea, right.

RE5 was really fun in co-op, though. As a single player experience it paled compared to RE4, of course, but it was a lot of fun with a buddy.

I didn't think RE5 did anywhere near those numbers

But most likely due to Resident Evil 4, everyone had high expectations. I don't think we can say the same now.

7 million? Seriously? Resident Evil 4, argueably the best reviewed RE game, across the gamecube, ps2 and pc only sold 7 million as of 2011.

it was also a GC exclusive when the hype was biggest so not exactly the best comparison when this one will be hitting 360/PS3 concurrently which is a much bigger and more interested market

IIRC, Capcom always predicts unlikely numbers. Maybe it's a culture thing where they think the employees will work harder to try and meet these goals.

      Good luck with that Capcom.

Is it me, or does Capcom totally suck now? Kind of a shadow of their former selves. I am looking forward to Dragon's Dogma though, I had fun with the demo.
