New Dead Space game confirmed, rumored to have co-op

Electronic Arts is one of the leakiest publishers around. While there have been murmurs about Dead Space 3 for quite some time, the publisher only recently confirmed that "a new title from the Dead Space franchise is coming this fiscal year."

Earlier rumors suggested Isaac Clarke's third journey would take him to an icy planet. However, a new report suggests Isaac won't be alone for this outing. Dead Space 3 will supposedly feature support for drop-in, drop-out co-op.

"Isaac Clarke will, if players choose, fight alongside a man with a gnarly scar on his face, an engineering RIG of his own, and glowing red eyes peering from his helmet," IGN's report details. The two will work in tandem to survive the new environment. For example, both players can use telekinesis to solve puzzles, or share health packs and ammo. During single-player, the character will simply act as Isaac's guide.

Moving towards co-op is a logical evolution for the franchise, given both Resident Evil 5 and 6 emphasize the feature heavily. In addition to offering co-op, the report also claims that the game will allow for more agile movement. Isaac will be able to crouch in the third game, giving him the ability to hide behind small objects as cover. In addition, there's a new evasive roll that allows him to jump to the side, away from oncoming enemies.

While EA has confirmed a new Dead Space game, they wouldn't talk about these rumored details, simply stating "we don't have any more detail at this time."

I hope Visceral doesn't do away with all of the horror/creepy stuff. Those themes were crucial for DS1 & DS2. I really hope they mind-fuck you hardcore in DS3.

DS1 was absolutely an outstanding game imo and I did see the game to it's end. I do have DS2, but have yet to play any of it and plan to do so soon due to DS3 coming out. The ONLY thing that's pissing me off is the fact it's gonna be on ORIGIN. While in truth it's not really a prob, but I have both DS1 & DS2 on Steam. So, I don't really fancy the fact that now my game series will be split between multiple DD's.

Dead Space and it's sequel are two of the best games on this generation of hardware. If you like Single player games, you should consider playing them.

Co-op in a horror themed game is a spectacularly bad idea.
