BioShock Infinite team seeking 'network engineer'

Could the team be working on some kind of multiplayer mode for BioShock Infinite? A job listing suggests so.

Many were disappointed--but not necessarily surprised--to see BioShock Infinite delayed to 2013. In an open letter to fans, studio head Ken Levine promised that "BioShock Infinite is a very big game, and we're doing things that no one has ever done in a first-person shooter... The great can be made greater, and we owe it to both ourselves and to you, our fans, to take this opportunity."

To keep the team focused on meeting its new 2013 date, Levine said that the team will skip media events like E3. But what could the team be so fervently working on?

Could the team be working on some kind of multiplayer mode for Infinite? A job listing on LinkedIn certainly suggests so. "Right now we're looking for a talented and experienced individual to help us with the networking aspects of BioShock Infinite," a job posting for a Network Engineer says. The hire will have to "work with the team who created BioShock network code" and will be "responsible for delivering a robust, scalable, and responsive client-side networking support on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms."

So far, Irrational Games has shown nothing about a possible multiplayer offering for Infinite. However, the franchise has dipped into an online mode before, with BioShock 2. While competitive multiplayer would stray far from offering something "no one has ever done" before, it would be intriguing if the relationship between Elizabeth and Booker could somehow be replicated in a cooperative mode.

It's pure business. Probably doesn't cost that much to throw in a quick deathmatch mode using existing assets for the perceived value add. Doesn't matter if nobody is going to play it after a month or two.

I wish I could pay less for a game and only get Single Player.

Buy it used. No EA pass = no online = cheaper SP game with no MP.

Eh ... probably not ... I'm a bit of a loner when it comes to video games.

The last game I played a lot of online was BF1943

What about other people who might want coop? Should they be considered or should they make games just for you and hope they can make money off of that?

Why are you being so hostile? He specifically said that he would like the option to pay less for a version without multi.

He's not trying to stop you from getting your MP on. Chill the fuck out.

I would pay MORE for them to leave multiplayer out and focus on making a great single player experience.

By the way this is not confirmation of anything, they could want somebody to do their Facebook integration or something for all we know.

I agree, I think this is bullshit without better evidence. Levine has made statements against tacking on MP before.

MP BioShock could be awesome, especially if they take advantage of Infinites setting.

This is not the first time they've had this job posting; there was one with the same general description in 2010.
