Angry Birds hits 1 billion downloads

The Angry Birds series has surpassed one billion downloads, only six months after celebrating a milestone of half a billion.

The Angry Birds zeitgeist has reached another milestone, as the series has crossed a whopping one billion downloads. Just last November Rovio was celebrating half a billion downloads. At least some of the credit for doubling that number in only six months has to go to the newest entry, Angry Birds Space.

Keep in mind that's a number of downloads, so being available in various flavors and for just about every platform under the sun certainly helps. "Thank you to all of our incredible fans!" reads a note from the company in the announcement video. "This is only the beginning of our story, keep your eyes peeled for what's coming up next from Rovio!"

Angry Birds Space hit the number one paid app at launch, and was briefly displaced by Draw Something before regaining its top spot.

I wonder how much grease has been deposited on glass screens because of this game.

      yeah so.. 1 Billion downloads.

      How many unique downloads?
How many RE-downloads? (after deleting the app/new phone...)

      How many paying Customers?

      What exactly constitutes a download?

Fucking Rovio thinking they will be bigger than Disney will just continue to inflate that bubble with Zynga and Facebook's help.

      But hey, they bought OMGPOP!

HEY THATS A NICE NUMBER THAT SAYS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Anybody remember beanie babies? Or pogs? Or chia pets? Or pet rock? Or insert fad here?

Anyone buying the (overpriced) angry birds merch is buying into the fad - at least the game downloads themselves are cheaper. I bet they make a lot of money off those freebie eagle thingies.
