Online games are notorious for having an abundance of DLC. It's becoming increasingly common for publishers to offer DLC "season passes" at launch, granting continuous access to a game's add-on goods. But Starhawk will not follow the rest of the industry. Instead, LightBox Interactive has promised that all future map packs for the game will be free. Curious, no?

Dylan Jobe explained to the PlayStation.Blog about lessons learned from Warhawk, his studio's previous game. "We really didn't like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players. And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured."

Because Jobe would rather have a cohesive online community, he promises that all map packs for Starhawk will be free. Already, the team is working on "Map Pack #1."

Although maps will be given away for every member of the community, the team will have to look to other means of monetizing the game. "We'll have some paid DLC content in the future... but we're still playing around with what that will be," Jobe explained. "We're going to be looking to see what the player feedback is on Starhawk in the coming weeks to help steer the DLC."

Awesome, I wish more games would do this. It's kind of shitty to join your friends in some games then see a message that says "x does not have map pack 2".

I think everyone should buy this game. It's very good and the developers are charming, good folk.

Been playing this shit all afternoon and it is fucking awesome. We established a forward operating base near the enemies base and proceeded to mass produce tanks and hawks in one game right under their noses.

      Great.

I was so pumped for this game but I'm bummed by the reviews. I was really hoping they'd dial it in.

Unless the release is vastly different from the beta,I'll totally pass on it.

Sorry, but this game just didn't do it for me.Third person view is very distracting in this game, plus it seemed that the standard assault rifle was incredibly weak.

Now take those gripe and add the fact that there's was absolutely no real teamwork or communication, and you have a multiplayer that pretty much fails on every level.

Now hopefully my gripes were just isolated to the beta, but unless I'm told otherwise,it's just not worth it.And besides all of that, there's just too many other shooters either out right now,or on the horizon for me to really give a damn about this on.

My person prediction is that this game will totally fail, kind of on the same level that Socom 4 did.
