Confirming much of a recent reveal from the UK, THQ officially announced Company of Heroes 2 today. The company is targeting early 2013 for the game, which will focus on the eastern front of World War 2. Players will take command of the Red Army to fight off Nazi invaders ravaging Mother Russia. Company of Heroes 2 is being developed by Relic Entertainment, as expected, using the company's own Essence 3.0 Engine. Relic touts the sequel as featuring dynamic battle tactics, environmental destruction, and new commander abilities. Comments from THQ executive VP Danny Bilson mention a "strong post-launch digital content plan that enhances and expands the product's lifecycle." The announcement also teases the first screenshot, above. "Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success," said Relic producer Greg Wilson in the announcement.

I built the computer I'm on right now to be able to play CoH...Wow it was that long ago huh?
Won't be able to do that now. Although additons have been made looks like I'm still gonna have to dial 'er down...

For a while I was obsessed with this game and to this day I probably have a 50% chance of beating a random player.

Matter-of-fact I'm going to try and prove it to myself right now.

COMPANY OF HEROES 1 was the BEST RTS in the last 12 years.
FUCK Starcraft 2 and its backwards thinking development and its peace-meal roll-out of its factions!
Relic is about to show that Blizzard and it's stagnant programmers how its done AGAIN.

That is, until game-breaking bugs and terrible balance problems are never fixed.

Relic makes great but flawed RTS games whereas Blizzard prioritizes balance over all else.

Play the single player, and then watch some of these to get basic mechanics and mindset down:

          http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/d0tk3/best_day9s_for_beginners/

They're pretty old but still worth watching. I suggest starting with #132, Back To The Basics (aka The Mental Checklist).

And as walker said, SC2 has some tutorials and challenge modes aimed at learning multiplayer

SC2 probably has the most guides of them all, the problem will be finding the one that suits your skill level. I'd suggest just playing the the campaign, it will ease you nicely into it.

You shouldn't play Company of Heroes for the same reason you shouldn't play Guild Wars 2. Because it will ruin you and you'll never be able to go back.

Company of Heroes is a fantastic game to learn on, and I would definitely recommend it over pretty much anything else.

The main reason is the setting. The fact that your infantry get destroyed by a machine gunner will make sense to you. A tank getting blown up by an anti-tank encampment will make sense to you. Tanks shrugging off tons and tons of hits will make sense to you.

These thigns actually go a long way towards making the game approachable. You will lose, but you will understand why a lot quicker than you would in most other games.

Thank you tons. I'll definitely check it out. SC2 doesn't really interest me because I feel like I won't understand why my one battle ship got blown up by the one alien thing. CoH looks a lot easier to follow.

I dunno, SC2 is very easy to comprehend IMHO and has far better balance (a huge problem with all Relic RTS games) so results and the road to improvement are more logical as well. I'm not going to threadcrap, just gonna say that SC2 is well worth your time if you want a top notch RTS.

Company of Heroes is pretty well balanced. Dawn of War is just about throwing retarded shit at your enemy and seeing what happens though.

They both have merits for sure and I wouldn't begrudge someone ignoring my advice. But I like CoH wayyyy more than the SC games.

SC is just so flat to me and the units are all so arbitrary :(

does that really matter lol ? Sounds like a immature opinion - get real kid and start playing, even only for singleplayer, it's worth it, nobody looks your freaking scores and stats, they don't matter, it never matterd , it never will, only the 13year old never-got-laid teens care for scores who think some stats are so important ... :p
