Weekend Confirmed 111 - Elder Scrolls Online, Black Ops 2, God of War: Ascension
by Garnett Lee, May 04, 2012 11:00am PDTBlockbuster games headline this episode of Weekend Confirmed. Elder Scrolls Online, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and God of War: Ascension alone could more than fill the show but there's more. Mike Schramm of TUAW and Joystiq helps the two Jeffs and Garnett bring the awesome needed to keep up with it all. The discussion of role-playing games also includes the recently released pirate-themed Risen 2. Sniper Elite V2 and a couple other things also make their way into the crowded mix before Finishing Moves puts the final exclamation point on the show.

I actually finished watching the RedLetterMedia reviews of all those movies a few weeks ago. WHile those were good, there's something to be said for the level if dissection Plinkett goes to, as well as the fact that he doesn't go off and then review the original trilogy, which he would undoubtedly find bad as well, given that he's a smart man and a critic besides.
If you tear apart any movie in that much detail (Why does this character know this, or why do they do that?); I really don't think I've ever seen a movie that holds up when inspected that closely. This problem is hardly unique to the prequel trilogy.
I also think that people forget how utterly dumb the original trilogy was as well, and give it a free pass just because they saw it when they were kids.
The "story" is generic, the "humor" is stupid and not funny, almost like something you'd see in a Saturday morning kid's cartoon, which is ironically enough a huge complaint leveled at the prequel, and the acting is a far cry from good. Seriously, the famous scene in Empire where Luke learns Vader's identity as his dad makes me laugh every time because it's so bad, but that's one of the worst examples.
Note: I generally just have a problem with film snobs. They often have such poor taste in other mediums of entertainment (music especially), that when they insult you because you don't notice bad plot, characters, etc., you can't help but laugh at how clueless and dumb they are when it comes to those other mediums. Film critics are the worst, though.
