Hot on the heels of The Elder Scrolls Online's announcement yesterday comes the first official trailer. It's all cinematic, with nary a glimpse of gameplay, but perhaps that old epic fantasy vibe is enough to get you jazzed.

The trailer explains that the Imperial throne sits empty, the all-important Dragonfires are unlit, and things that go bump in the night, well, are going bump in the night. As so often happens in these MMO situations, battle lines are drawn, alliances are forged, and loads of players are thrown into the mix.

Developed by Zenimax Online Studios, not Skyrim dev Bethesda Game Studios, The Elder Scrolls Online is coming for PC and Mac.

The self consuming snake (the idea they copied here) is a very classic symbol. Also, if you havnt watched that movie...dont.

F*** this game. If Bethesda decides to kill my favorite SINGLE PLAYER game then f*** them too.

With an Elder Scrolls MMO, you don't think the likelyhood of a new single player Elder Scrolls game significantly deminished?

Not happening. Separate studios. Problem solved.

Art looks ok I guess. I want to not like it but I'll save that until I can see a UI and gameplay vids.

The only thing about those screens that even kind of look like Elder Scrolls was the shopkeepers counter with shit all over it that you probably can't swipe anymore.

Looks like generic MMO crap and I'll have none of it.

I really hope they find some way to differentiate it. No matter how good the base lore is, if it's another 'me too' MMO it'll be a total waste of the IP.

For those who are unclear: This is not being made by the Skyrim team. This is developed by a new studio formed in 2007 specifically assigned to this game.

I think they mis-interpreted the want for an elderscrolls multiplayer option.
What people like about the ES series is a sense of open ended freedom while being able to dynamically effect a massive world of content.

Unless ESO is something really really special, MMO's by most nature have very static content. No matter how many times one would slaughter a village, the villagers will be up and running again within an hour.

From what I have heard so far, this will be nothing like the elder scrolls games, save for the story. If all this turns out to be true, they have failed terribly. Take Skyrim, and make it an MMO style game, thats the winning concept...this sadly, sounds likely, to not be it.

Yea, and about half the story is nonsensical in the context of their world.

Do you think the three dragon heads represent three different factions, DAoC style? Wouldn't mind me some RvRvR action

Anyone know who the narrator is in the trailer? Sounds like Michael Gambon (Dumbledore) from the Harry Potter movies.

I know I don't speak for everyone here...but I'd be willing to bet at least a little money on the following:

The majority of people that like games like Skyrim and Oblivion, are not interested in MMO's...or if they are, not in this setting.

      MMO does not equal sandbox
      MMO does not equal mods

I guess if you're looking for a kind of Skyrim on rails or something it might work...that's not for me.
