New UT Patch Coming

I don't like Daggah's methods sometimes, but he has a point about Q3 players denouncing UT.

Read this thread over and you will find that Daggah is the one who single-handedly started the flamewar. Then he has the nerve to blame it all on Q3 "fanboys", and he just keeps on flaming me, all the while calling ME an ass.

i cannot understand why ppl like UT. The AI is terrible. like on overlord, you could stand at the enterance and just peg bots as they run in a line up the middle. (good military stragety for the dark ages) 90% of the maps suck, their architechture sucks, and they are easy to get lost in. The netcode is terrible, i had a t-1 connected to a t-3 at school and the pings were always terrible. 50% of the weapons were just lame, ie the ripper and impact hammer. The models that shipped with the game arent that good, with very little variety. And the game never runs good on my computer. I have a geforce 1 ddr, and i need to play at 640*480 to get some decent frames. The only thing i did like about UT is the assult maps. But the guys at Epic didn't put any assult maps in the Map pack or the patches.

Whatever, flame me if you want, i dont care. I think UT blows for the above reasons, and barring the world's greatest patch, my opinion isn't gonna change.

Well, I guess if I started the flame war then technically I can show up in a Quake 3 thread, toss a couple of random Quake3-bashing sentences into a post and STILL not be the cause of a flame war?

And even if some people ARE pointing out valid criticisims (in their opinion) towards Unreal in this thread, WTF does this have anything to do with Quake3? Daggah just assumes that anyone who doesn't think UT/Unreal is great is an id zealot. Never mind if, like me, they play Counter-Strike exclusively and maybe Need for Speed. Oh no, if they have ANYTHING at all negative to say about Unreal, they're id zealots.

I really find myself disengaging from a lot of Something Awful's stuff. It's a little too "Oh, look at me! I'm cynical!"-ish. Jeff K. is a one joke gag that's going to go on forever. The AI in Quake 3 is a joke. Even on higher settings, they don't pick quads or anything and they tend to hang out in one place on the map.

I just finished reading this monsterous bitchfest. It actually made me laugh aloud a couple of times.

If I wanted to brag about Q3, bots would be the last thing I would bring up. They are terrible. Start up Q3DM7 and add a random bot to join you. They will either sit at the outside RL or walk to the little gate thing that opens by hitting the button (next to the indoor RL)and stand there looking down. They will not move at all until you come close pretty close to them or hit them with a shot. I believe only the bot that is for Q3DM7 is capable of navigating the level properly and is the only one that will go up to hit the switch. Q3 bots can waste you while you have quad and stroll right by the quad (nightmare bots even!).

If you must declare your loyalty to Q3 use real reasons like netcode and graphics in terms of models and 'thicker' look due to extra polys.

HAHAHAHAHA...wow, I never thought what i said would start a war. We are all babies(myself included) who cant stand to have our toys taken away and broken. Sorry for any toes i stepped on. The truth is I dont like UT, and i only play q3a when i want to relieve stress. My online game of choice is TFC(never got into CS, maybe ill give it a whirl sometimes) However, i prefer a decent single-player game to a great multiplayer game. so to everyone who said i am wrong or gay or whatever, fuck you and to everyone who agreed with me and said "shut up daggah", same to you.

Time to change to a different game. There is a Tribes 2 interview on sharkeyextreme. Pretty cool. Got some screens too. Sorry if this is old news.

I know for a fact that Q3 has some very good client-side prediction that as far as I know UT does not have, therefore that could be one argument by which Q3's netcode is in fact better than UT's.

Heh I am European (UK to be exact) and shock...I like UT! Despite the fact that it runs like shit on the best gfx card you can get (well, I'm sure it would run better on a voodoo5 but Glide doesn't count.)

People bashing Q3 or UT just don't realise the futility of it all. At the end of the day it's down to preference. I personally prefer Q3 (netcode is way better, FACT) but that doesn't mean that UT sucks or that I am automatically a fanboy or someone that bashes UT, I just like what I like. Q3 and UT are really quite different, just leave it that.

So does anyone know if this patch is going to improve d3d performance? I am getting tired of Q3 running in 3-figure framerates and UT running in 2-figure framerates.
