Microsoft actually rang us yesterday to give us the bottom line on what's going on. Bungie will *definitely* remain an independent group within Microsoft - getting access to the big M's marketing clout and cash pile - whilst Gates' company gets some top game talent. Halo will still arrive as planned on the PC - but will also be released on X-Box.No word on a Mac release though.

This is always the party line when a big company buys a smaller, successful independent. Sadly, it rarely stays this way, though.
The smaller company's owners have much less motivation now that they've basically cashed in, and the bigger company always wants to take control--slowly but surely--of the little company.
It's the way business works, with rare exceptions.

Gates' company gets some top game talent
Why would he spend so much money just to get game/programming talent? He has that already. Or at least there are easier/cheaper ways of doing it. MS is launching a piece of hardware and it needs a killer-app. WindowsCE doesn't have a killerapp and look how its doing against PalmPilot.
Look how much time MS took to come out with Office for the Mac. And its still not as good as the Windows version.
Don't get your hopes up too. This all might be PR work to still keep us excitied and interested.

too bad we have to wait on the x-box release before we will see halo.
Main question is, how much of a delay will this whole acquisition/adjusting phase cause? I can't imagine that it's the easiest thing to just pick up shop, move across the country, and plonk down and pick up right where you left off...

That's a good idea Microsofty Spongie... This way, when users see how much this game rocks on a PC compared to the outdated-.009-seconds-after-release-x-box consumers are sure to come flocking and frolicking to your kickass platform.
