The official reveal of the next Call of Duty game was supposed to happen during the NBA playoffs tonight, but someone at Activision pulled the switch a little early to confirm that yes, it is indeed Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 from Treyarch. And yes, it is jumping into the near-future. The official site went live early this morning, though most of the useful bits are still locked down. Still, it does confirm that it'll be released for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 13.

Leaked images spotted by Doope

The screenshots and teaser trailer are unavailable, but the site has a still of the trailer showing Los Angeles in flames and being evacuated. A fuzzed-out thumbnail shows the quadrotor teased in a spot of viral marketing, and confirms that the leaked screenshots picked up by Doope were real. "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 propels players into a near future, 21st Century Cold War, where technology and weapons have converged to create a new generation of warfare," the pre-order page says. Expect more information, and that trailer, tonight.

By this stage I think I really only care about the IW ones, they proved they've still got it. Treyarch, not so much.

Uhhh.... what? I played the last 3 games and they were not different enough to even really even tell who developed what.

If anything I'd say that maybe MW2 and MW3 were better SP and BLOPS was better MP. They're still all essentially the same damn game though.

I hated MW2 and MW3 but enjoyed CoDBLOPS (CoD4 was better than all of them). I would note that I've never been a huge fan of the single player in any of the games...so I'm speaking purely from a multiplayer perspective.

Treyarch are the only ones who care enough to include a console, fov slider and proper dedicated support. Speaks volumes IMO. IW or what is left of them can go do one.

Haha. I might, if I wouldn't be left behind everyone else once I jumped into multiplayer.

I don't get why high sales for this is a bad thing. Is it because then they'll be more likely to continue to make games like this? Considering a lot of people enjoy games such as this one, I don't see how that's a bad thing. (Not you specifically) If you don't like it, don't play it. Simple as that.

Every year people complain about CoD's high sales, as if people are being forced into buying it and thus taking away money they'd spend on better games, which makes no sense. People buy what they want, which seems to be Call of Duty a lot of the time. :P

I grabbed MW3 in the Steam sale but would never pay full price. The MW games are usually pretty fun multiplayer and the single player is a ridiculous Hollywood-style 5 hour blast, which works for me.

Given that they went from WW2 to Modern War, I'm assuming they'll go to future war with lasers and shit and I'll definitely check that out, I think. The thing about COD games is that great cinematic single player experience and although I do not care about COD multi, the SP will keep dragging me in.

That said, I have MW3 and have yet to play it, so maybe I've moved on too.

CoD has a cinematic style...but there's nothing cinematic about 640p and textures to match. Cinematic is the trailer for Colonial Marines, BF on Ultra, or Halo. Maybe I'm being a bit elitist, I just feel that nothing can be accurately termed cinematic if it's not running in HD, in this day and age.

I do, yes. compelling story and good tension, good villains. battlefield is the one that could drop the SP stuff if they so desired, maybe it like Quake 3. SP is just some bot warmup levels.

but modern warfare had some really good campaign sections, well scripted and tense. then you get to multiplayer, and it's all a bunch of cheating whiner spergy assholes.

I think Treyarch still take a lot of crap from people over COD3, which was a rush job. I read often where people say that they haven't played BLOPS etc, and will pass this next game, almost just because it's Treyarch, and not IW. Shame, they are a great developer, I thought BLOPS was awesome (Loved WAW as well). I guess I'm the "console noob" that a lot of you hate, because I buy the COD games every year, and put about 150 hours in each time.....laughed at the concsole noob thing actually, since the first "console" I ever played was a Hanimex console, with "PONG", in 1977, and still get excited when a new system is released.......let the flaming begin!!
