NVIDIA has announced its latest flagship graphics card, the GeForce GTX 690, for a whopping $999.
Are you in need of a new graphics card? Do you have about a thousand bucks just laying around? Do you tend to overdo it? The solution may just be the the GeForce GTX 690, NVIDIA's latest flagship graphics card. It boasts some impressive stats and design, and for that price, it really should.
The company announced the card on Saturday. It's powered by two Kepler GPUs, which the company boasts makes it almost match two GTX 680s in SLI, a difference of 2.8%. In terms of sheer stats, it has a base clock of 915 MHz, and a boost clock of 1019 MHz.
More specific details, along with shiny bits of technology porn, can be found in the announcement. NVIDIA points out that its price means it's "not a graphics card for everyone." Then again, if you're in the market for a luxury item and don't want to upgrade your card for a while, you can find ways to justify it to yourself.

I'm pretty sure a 120hz 1920x1200 monitor doesn't exist. Getting this card for 1 1080p monitor would be extremely ridiculously stupidly excessive.

I am pretty sure you are wrong. If you want to play with 3d vision or whatever AMD's answer is, it requires a 120hz capable 3d monitor. They exist. To get 60 FPS in 3d you need to run @ 120 hz since the images alternate.

Yes there is not 1920x1200 120hz screen unfortunately, but that doesn't matter. I cant FEEL the difference 120 fps makes over 60. And I like that feel enough to spend to get it. But then some cant even tell the difference from 30 to 60 let alone 120, I can . HTH.

I can run COD games at 120 on my 5970 and it is night and day from 60. My 5970 rarely hit 120 with BF3, usually 60-80fps and I dont like it.
For whatever reason I also get less, almost no tearing at 120fps with NO vsync. At 60 with no vsync is atrocious.

They used to say that about high end cards whenever they come out. Buy a high end card for a lower resolution and you can buy yourself some future proofing. People used to say the same thing about just about every high end card that comes out at the time. Games despite what people say are still becoming more demanding on hardware. If not by the developers then by the mods available. He wants to run at 120 not 60FPS. This card wouldn't be a complete waste.
