Battlefield 3 shows off 'Close Quarters' DLC

DICE has released new details and a gameplay trailer for the first of three more Battlefield 3 downloadable content packs. This one is "Close Quarters" and focuses on, obviously enough, close-quarter combat.

DICE has shared details and a new trailer for the first of its three packs coming to Battlefield 3. First up is the Close Quarters pack, which focuses on tight environments and forced confrontation.

Close Quarters promises 10 new weapons like the ACW-R carbine, the M417 sniper rifle, the L86LSW machine gun, and the M5K tactical machine pistol, along with "added persistence." It will also include four new maps, 10 Assignments, 5 unique dog tags. Check out the trailer below to see one of the maps, the Donya Fortress, as it endures the kind of destruction that comes with several dozen armed men.

Sometime after Close Quarters will be Armored Kill, which focuses on large maps and vehicle battles. It will pack new drivable tanks, ATVs, and mobile artillery. The final pack is called "End Game," but DICE is playing that one close to the vest without any details at all.

        Word.

It's basically trying to draw in the COD fans with the same type of map,but with better graphics.

I've been a huge Battlefield fan since the beginning and I actually like the CQC maps. Don't get me wrong, I love the outdoor huge battles, but the CQC are fun and are a nice change of pace sometimes.

I agree, it's not traditional but still fun IMO. My friends and I love setting up at the ticket hall and working the escalator/meatgrinder.

I don't see a problem in trying to get a few CoD fans either.. The close quarter style maps finally work with a BF game.

Not that I'll even care about BF3 by then. I suppose I'm more curious about the interest in these non-battlefield maps from the regulars.

I'd say the folks who are playing and paying for this crummy content should get the chance to play it in the weekly battles here, but I don't run things! It's entirely possible those will be the majority of folks still playing BF3 regularly by then anyway. My interest is waning big time because of the lack of new & large scale maps.

Armored Kill is coming way too late to the game in my opinion.

I can't say for sure, especially since BF3 wasn't that good of a game Battlefield game to begin with. I was excepting a grand return to classic Battlefield but instead got a game that was more focused on smaller scale infantry combat than anything else, and now they are still focusing on that for the additional content.

What I would consider to be the best multiplayer games lasted as long as they have by growing and evolving over time with updates and maps and mods. DICE's patches have sort of kept my interest by changing the balance of certain things, but some of those changes are not always for the better. BF3 will never have custom game modes or maps (or even basic things like different vehicle loadouts on existing maps to keep old content fresh). And it will probably be about a year after release until the handful of maps in Armored Kill round out the measly 4 large scale vehicular warfare conquest maps that shipped with the game.

I burn out extremely fast playing the same maps the same ways over and over, and it's even worse with the Karkand pack because those were previously played to death in BF2.

BF4 or whatever BF entry is next will be on shelves a lot faster than the max lifespan of a really good mp game, and BF3 will be replaced and left to rot as BC2 has. Knowing it has no real longevity and the content I actually care about will be coming too late for me to muster any energy in giving a damn for, it's really hard for me to justify the time investment to keep up with everyone else. Even the serious business games, which I absolutely love, are starting to bore me because of the stale content.

What makes you say that? I'm still playing Battlefield 3 but since I try to avoid most of the infantry focused stuff a lot of the time I'm extremely limited in options of maps to play.

The game shipped with 9 tiny TDM maps, 9 small Squad Rush maps, and then the other 27 Rush / Small Conq. / Large Conquest maps. 5 of those Conquest Large maps are still small scale & infantry focused - Sienne Crossing, Damavand Rape Tunnel, Tehran, Grand Bazaar, and of course Metro. There's also an infantry only server variable for every single map and mode. I wonder if all the people who complain about vehicle rape even know about that. Probably not. Karkand breaks down in similar fashion.

There's really no need for any more CQB content when the large scale stuff is already less than 10% of the entire game, as someone who is lacking in maps to play it doesn't make any sense to me and just means I'll be waiting a long ass time for the content I actually care about. So long I really doubt I'll care about the game enough to pay for them in the fall. It's fucking ridiculous they have to focus on one specific thing for the next expansion, I'd actually buy the DLC if they threw us a bone and some real Battlefield maps in there too. And I'd continue playing and buy the next one, too.

It's no coincidence they are giving the masses what they want with more small scale infantry stuff. They have plenty of stats saying that's what's being played the most. And it's not just because that is what the majority of the game's content consists of. People can't get enough of grinding xp and unlocks on high ticket Metro servers even though there is no semblance of teamwork whatsoever. But that's not why I play Battlefield, and that's definitely not why I bought BF3.

I also miss the DICE that would toss in a new map with the big updates.

I feel the same way, they really need more maps like Karkand that actually FEEL big. The sad thing is that it's an old map.

I think BF3 holds up really well with the CQ stuff. I didn't think I'd enjoy it much before the game launched, but having spent lots of time on that Subway map I definitely enjoyed it. BF3 still is mainly about the massive big open levels with lots of vehicles, but the CQ-no vehicle stuff is fun too.

I really have no issue with it as long as the maps aren't as linear as metro. Also I like the level of destruction they've showed off so far.

The only way I ever won on Metro as US is to rush as many people past point B or the Ticket Booth. It's easy to hold the Russians from C actually but getting enough guys to push up the back escalators to rush the Cafe works very well. Smoke at the stairs really helps too.

part of me wants to see a combination of tiny maps with key vehicles. adding stuff like little birds to land on a roof top of a mansion or a AMTRAK demolishing a wall to break into an enemy bunker compound would be badass but shit like that would never happen because we cant have cool things.

That's why its just a DLC They aren't trying to be COD if so they would of made the whole game like this. They are just trying to reach COD players and this looks fun for me. A nice change a pace to change it up. There is also another DLC coming out don't forget that will be VECH DLC.
