PSOne title shows up for Vita, but it's broken

Vita users waiting patiently for PSOne content on their handhelds have been asked to continue to be patient.

Early adopters of the PS Vita knew upfront before the handheld launched in December that PSOne games would not be compatible as they were on the PSP. They were assured that the games would eventually be coming. One has finally appeared, but it doesn't work.

Buried in the PlayStation Store this week, the PSOne title Buzz Lightyear of Star Command was found for Vita. A user on NeoGAF was able to grab the game, but received error messages when trying to play it, even though the Vita's recently added PSP emulator popped up.

A recent tweet by Shuhei Yoshida, Sony's president of worldwide studios, told Vita users to continue to be patient. "Our engineers are working hard on it. Pls be patient," he responded to a player pointing out that the content was supposedly coming "soon" two months ago. In a later tweet to someone asking about the same question, he said he could not talk about the timing.

So, PSOne content is still coming. Unfortunately Vita users must continue to standby.

This is just another reason why a Vita didn't seem that appealing to me. It's really overpriced in comparison to a 3DS, and it seems to drop the ball on what the fans and loyal customers would like to see.

Disclaimer: I am not a nintendo fan boy by any means, nor do I own a 3DS.

        1) PS1 games are the reason you didn't want a Vita? Really? Not the wealth of PSP games or the amazing Vita games, the ancient-as-hell games that you've probably already played? I don't buy it.

        2) It's actually very reasonably priced. I fully expected them to go PS3-retard and try to charge $400 for it (or at least $349). Two fiddy was quite reasonable for the specs.

        3) The 3ds? Really? That's what you're holding up against it?

It's a fair point. I own a 3DS. I didn't expect to like it as much as I do (in fact I love the thing, it is my favorite handheld to date). To address your third point: of course the 3DS is what it's being held up against, as these two are the dedicated gaming handhelds of this generation. And the 3DS is currently the front runner. Your mock surprise at this is just worthless bias.

As for the second point, price is relative. Your interpretation is based upon your single perspective and financial situation, and thus far hasn't proven to be the majority case (as the current sales numbers show, and the information we can extrapolate from Nintendo's successful price drop). It was Nintendo's price drop that put the system into an acceptable realm for me.

And finally the main point: the biggest disappointment for me with the 3DS has been the painfully slow trickle of virtual console/3D classics. If I had realized just how little virtual console content would have been released from the time that I purchased to now, I would have seriously reconsidered my purchase. For some, this type of feature is a MAJOR selling point. Hell, my interest in the new Nintendo games is largely driven by nostalgia, so of course these old games are important to me. The Vita may be a good system with good games, but the overall value of the product will vary with each individual depending on how important specific features are and the quality of service those features receive. Don't assume your perspective is the end all, be all of gamers.

Eh, are PS1 games really that big of a deal? I went back and played one on my PSP and it helped me to remember how far games have come since then. There's a big difference between old nintendo games and old ps1 games as far as replayability. 2D games like mario hold up really well compared to the early 3D games which really show their age.
