Leisure Suit Larry hits his Kickstarter goal

The smarmy little man in a leisure suit will definitely being making a comeback as Replay Games hits its half-million-dollar Kickstarter goal.

Larry, that smarmy little Lethario in a leisure suit, will be returning to your computer in reloaded form, thanks to developer Replay Games achieving its Kickstarter goal of $500,000 earlier today, with seven days still left in the campaign.

With the achievement in hand, creator Al Lowe can get cranking on Leisure Suit Larry HD, with the intention of getting the game on PC, MAC, iOS devices, PS3, Xbox 360 and just about any other platform that has a controller or touch device of some sort. Fans of the series have voted on getting more content in the game, depending on how far the company can get past its initial goal.

More details should be available once the final amount has been tallied, and you can still donate until May 2. In the meantime, have fun watching Lowe trying to make a few PSAs for the campaign:

i really can't understand the lack of interest in this kickstarter, i thought everybody loved Leisure Suit Larry, why it's not taking off like Double Fine's kickstarter !!!

I couldn't be more excited for this kickstarter, some of my best PC gaming memories came from discovering and playing the LSL games on my shitbox Packard Bell back in the mid 90's, lol what a shit computer company that was.

None of the other game kickstarters except Banner Saga have gotten anywhere near the response of Double Fine.

Lots of my chums lost any patience with, and interest in, Leisure Suit Larry long ago. A decade or two of growing up and many awful games will do that to people.

Yeah I loved LSL but it's one of those things that for me doesn't need to be dredged up from the past.

It's been a long time since the last good Larry game, LSL 7

Loved that game. It was just all sorts of fun. I think that I still have the disc somewhere in my stuff at home. I should fire it up again.

because they are asking for a half a million dollars to make a 2d remake of a 20 year old game, double fine was asking for 300k for a brand new ip.

          ^This.

I would be more enthused for a brand new Larry adventure. Although I do realise that if this re-make does do well, we may get "The Missing Floppies".

because LSL was big on titillation and back in the 386 days that couldn't be found unless it was forest porn. So now we are here in the 2012 and titillation is found everywhere on the Internet so making me play a game to do that is pointless.

I'm pretty sure I was playing LSL before I had a 386. It was close to the same time I was reading Penthouse in the forest on the way home from school though I'm not sure which came first.

LSL was about as titillating as American Pie or whatever. It's not really meant to be exciting.

I've never played a LSL game. What are they like?

They were pretty much the adult themed versions of the old Kings Quest/Space Quest games.

          Humor, sex, and charm.

Because the last great game in series was released 16 years ago.

I am going to laugh when a large portion of these kickstarter games are massively delayed, end up being severely underfunded and needing more money, or the companies/people working on the games dissolve. It will be a sad laugh, but a laugh nonetheless.

Why? I don't really understand why some people want kickstarter to fail.

I can imagine why some people would want it to fail: it keeps publishers and their egos and control issues out of the picture.

What do you guys think of band kickstarters? My band is thinking of putting one together to finish off our 3 EP project.

This kick-starter money should be going to make LSL 4 The Missing Floppies, a remake is meh.
