Dragon's Dogma demo now available

The Dragon's Dogma demo is now available on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, giving access to two missions and the character creator.

As promised, the demo for Dragon's Dogma has hit both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live. Capcom's whack at the action-RPG genre lets you sample two missions and the character customization features.

The two missions give you pre-set characters to slay monsters with -- the Fighter in a battle against a Chimera, and the Strider against a Griffin. Your tinkering with the character-maker doesn't impact your demo play, but you will be able to import your character and Main Pawn to the game once it releases.

If the sample convinces you to pick up Dragon's Dogma, you'll get another demo goodie: access to the Resident Evil 6 demo. However, that offer only extends to Xbox 360 players, and the demo won't come out until September.

Dragon's Dogma is coming to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 22. No PC version has been announced, but the company has hinted that enough demand could bring one to market. To that end, the Capcom forum thread requesting one is up to a whopping 56 pages.

I was a little baffled by the demo. I made a character and minion or whatever and then it just stuck me in the first demo level with a stock dude. Then it flooded helpers at me so I never had any attachment to them and they constantly shouted over one another just being noisy cannon fodder. Then there was the whole black bars on my screen thing? Weird game, and I didn't get to try the 2nd demo level yet, but there is a definite potential there but I didn't get the love it got in threads yesterday.

Ignore the demo I think it was a mistake, I personally am not sure why the exposed the content they did, why do demos usually well suck or do not do the real game justice?

I watched the whole GT/LIVE: Dragon's Dogma Pre-Release Preview which was amazing(3 hours) if you can find that that what you want to watch.

Here is a real good vid to show what the game is really about(better than the demo), watch this --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrCiV4LOYk4&feature=related

I don't like the Demo at all :( sort of pointless fighting the bosses(while cool I wanted to try the other stuff), but I know after watching the 3 hour vid from GameTrailers that I will love the game and probably a lot of others.

yeah, thanks for that. the demo was awful, but it's pretty clear there's a proper game in there.

still, his other points were valid. i particularly didn't like how they go about adding party members. i felt like there was way too many of them and that i was following THEM around and trying to get in any hits i could before they killed everyone. such an action heavy game might be better with only one companion, but i guess that's a personal preference.

wish i hadn't played the demo, but i'm still excited about the game. at least i know it looks nice and the combat is fun.

I got to play a much bigger chunk of the game at PAX East and it's awesome. This demo is a little bit lame compared to that.

I thought it was really confusing. felt a lot like the reckoning demo except super short and with a lot more people yelling at you at random times.

In the demo I played, you only had one companion character and it wasn't annoying. As far as I know, I think you hire those other people when you need them, but they don't need to be there. I also thought it was confusing and a bit annoying but maybe if we start with one character and build up to more later it wont be so bad.

The second level uses your created characters. The first part says it's a prologue, so that might have something to do with it. Hard to say without any story, but it could take place well before your character is alive.

The Xbox Live demo appears to be a Gold exclusive.. I found the demo on the marketplace, but there's no download button for me. :(

So the jumping on monsters and climbing around on them while stabbing them was kinda cool at least. That and having your party members toss you up onto the monsters in the air was neat too.

Too bad Diablo 3 is out before it, now it's something I might pick up on sale.

I'd have agreed with you before I played that beta weekend. *shakes head* What a joke. Dragon's Dogma is fucking awesome, though.

I've played that demo to death, even though it wasn't necessarily this sort of play I was looking forward to.

I find that I can get better and more realistic realisations out of the character creator than in something like mass effect. Put that in your book Jeff. I like that it remembers your dude by console, meaning I can replay the demo with my duders, and the full release too.

I think I can put my finger on why I love this game so much already. It's the physicality of it. That griffin looks like it's being pulled up by those enormous wings, and when it lands hard (On it's feet, or it's back) the thing sounds and feels like a massive animal. The way you can jump on and climb most anything, it really does give you the sense that these things have mass.
