Xbox Live gets new advertising partners

Microsoft announced today that it has reached deals with six new companies for advertising space on its dashboard, many of which either already have dedicated Xbox TV channels or will be getting them soon.

Microsoft is boasting a plethora of new advertising partners today, for 15- and 30-second spots within the new Xbox 360 dashboard that launched in December. The company announced today that it has struck advertising deals with ESPN, GameSpot, Last.fm, Manga Entertainment, and MUZU.TV.

It's worth noting that many of these advertisers either currently have or will soon have their own dedicated entertainment channels on Xbox Live, so the advertising will probably point users toward those apps. The announcement included word that Xbox Live boasts 40 million active members, and Xbox Live advertising has increased by 142 percent since 2010. It also claims that Gold members in the US spend 84 hours a month on Xbox Live, particularly due to the increased use of entertainment apps.

The Xbox 360's entertainment apps have been steadily growing since launch. Microsoft is targeting its next TV apps to launch sometime this summer.

Yo dawg we heard you like paying for accounts, so we put an account inside your account so you could pay your account while also paying for another account

You are incorrect. To use Netflix you must have a gold Live account.

Seriously? mine is expiring soon, can't wait if its true.
This is one of the thing that bothers me the most about the 360, powering on the console to play a game and then be bombarded by ads everywhere on the dashboard.

It's it great? We pay for the console, the internet access and the gold account all so we can get ads. Remove the net or the gold and you're back in pre-21st century gaming bliss

Their strategy for gold is "everyone else sucks dick at online so let's milk this for all it's worth until Sony and Nintendo pull their heads out of their asses"

No kidding. This and the yet unfixed security issues have made me decided to quit playing the Xbox this generation once I get through my backlog. If this shit shows up in Windows 8 (and I think it will) I'm going to cling to 7 until I have to go mac or something.

Its super easy to steal accounts and it takes Microsoft way to long to transfer the account back to the victim.

I haven't seen anyone posting about that in awhile. A quick search turns up a bunch of articles from last Nov-Jan and pretty much nothing since then (EA claiming FIFA wasn't the culprit but...).

I really wish I could or it would pin games I play often to a front dashboard. To play trials I have to go to Games -> My Games -> Sort -> Recently Downloaded -> Trials -> Play.

      Waaaaaaaaaaay too many steps

Between the ads, not letting developers offer free DLC, and netflix requiring a gold subscription I think my next console is going to be PS4. However I get a bad feeling that Sony might ditch the free model too.

Awesome news!!!! I hope MS can get even more advertisers on board. Maybe throw in 5 minutes of unskippable ads in their games? 10 minutes for Gold subscribers!?
