Skype video coming to Vita today
by John Keefer, Apr 24, 2012 6:00am PDTTotally trashing your opponents in multiplayer is always a satisfying experience. Now you can see their faces after you've done it on the PS Vita, as Skype will be available for the handheld later today.
Skype will offer voice and video capabilities for all Wi-Fi and 3G Wi-Fi models, according to a release from Sony. The app will let users to switch between Vita's front and rear face cameras during a call. The application will run in "background mode," allowing players to pause a game, make a call, then return to the game. However, there is a caveat that some games may shut off network connectivity during use, stopping incoming Skype calls, while other applications will not be able to pause during a call.
The Skype app will be free from the PlayStation Store later today.
